“ Palace which today houses the offices of the State Government, was built in the same place where the old "Casas Reales" were located in the colonial period, hosting the rulers of Yucatan and many of their aides. Its location is at the crossing of two of the busiest streets in Merida: 60 and 61. The design of the palace, as we see it today, was conducted in 1879 during the government of Manuel Romero Ancona license, according to a design engineer Olegario G. Canton. In 1883 the original building was demolished, but construction of the new building did not begin until April 2, 1887, when General Octavio Rosado ruled, who laid the cornerstone. The construction of the building was completed in 1892 and was inaugurated on September 15 of the same year by then-Gov. Colonel Daniel Traconis. Solis Vicente Leon and David Casares collaborated in the work engineers. Palazzo, eclectic classicist style, covers an area of 42 square meters front and back. It has 2 floors adorned with portals and a beautiful stone quarry staircase. Inside, a large central courtyard stands out. Its facade looks like a replica of the church bell of the village of Dolores, the priest Miguel Hidalgo y Costilla used to summon the people to a struggle that ended in independence. 1905 was adapted to the Building (now useless) Meteorological Observatory; in 1920 the set was renovated and January 3, 1931 the bust of Felipe Carrillo Puerto, work of the master Alfonso Cardona, in the rest of the main staircase was discovered. For years that sculpture was not in that place. During the periods of government of Carlos Loret de Mola (1970-1976) and Dr. Francisco Luna Kan (1976-1982), the great Yucatan painter Fernando Castro Pacheco (1918-2013) reflected 27 mural paintings depicting the passages of state life, which are distributed over two floors of the building.
